Brighter

As a part of my Kevin Spacey movie marathon, I watched The Shipping News. It was released in 2001 and alongside Mr. Spacey, the cast were Julianne Moore, Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett, and was directed by the wonderful Lasse Halstrom.

Since I didn't read the novel, which was written by Annie Proulx and it won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize, I'll tell you the story from the movie.

It tells the story of Quoyle (bahasa:kuoyel), a worker at a newspaper in New York. One day he met Petal and got her pregnant and they had a daughter, Bunny. Quoyle was totally in love with her but Petal didn't love him back. After Quoyle's parents commited suicide, she left with her new boyfriend and took Bunny with them. Later, they were found dead, but Bunny was spared. She was sold by them to a black market for $6000. But she then later was brought back to Quoyle.

With his aunt, Agnis, who came to look after her nephew, they all went 'home' to Newfoundland, an island near Canada. There Quoyle and Bunny found a new home, and a new life.

I love, love this movie. It's my kind of movie: a new life, second chances, that sort of thing. I think every main character in the story had some form of bitter past. Quoyle (I never get used to writing the eccentric name) with his love with Petal but found new love with Wavey. Agnis, with her dark past and she claimed she was happy once she had met her match. Wavey, whose husband was unfaithful to her, found Quoyle. Even little Bunny, overcome her fear of dying.

I'd recommend this to anyone. I think I should start reading the novel.

Olive Olive

Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout.

The book is hard, for me at least. It mainly revolves around Olive and the people around her. The book consists of 13 connected short-stories about Olive and her life with her husband, her kid, her former colleague, her neighbors and so on. Each story is touching and somewhat sad. I love 'Pharmacy' because Henry really cares for Denise, something rarely happen now. The story where Olive and Henry was held hostage was awesome too.

There some witty lines along the way but it's actually a bit painful to read it. When Henry got sick and paralyzed, he stayed in a nursing home, Olive visits him. It's just sad.

If you're interested in a life story, this is the book for you. Do take time to absorb all the words and read between the lines. It's amazing.

I'm going to move on to a lighter book.

Er, I'm going to Andrea's party later today. Posting the pictures later tonight, okay?

Sparks' Newest

I saw this through Naomi's blog and the idea intrigued me. I love the second chance/start over story. I just wish I can get my hands on the novel first.

Big Love

IT'S TEACHER'S DAY

Each day, each morning.
you wake up early,
too early.
driving along the same road.
facing the same traffic.
go to the same school
teach the same topic.
pretty much all you life.

What drives them, I sometimes wonder
How can they wake up each morning
taking care of someone else's children
with 1001 characteristic and personalty
dealing with patience and humility

I think they just fell in love with educating
the joy, the unbelievable sense of pride
when we do good in life

-dedicated to every teacher in the world, especially my teachers-

thank you.

Why?

Do you know that feeling when you let someone down? Don't you feel awful?

I let a lot of people down. But when I let down this particular person, I think I lost her trust.

Keep Coming

Universal Studios is coming to Singapore.

I can't hardly wait! I love theme parks. Aside from Dufan, I was fortunate enough to visit Hongkong Disneyland a couple of years ago. I love the theme and the rides. I particularly love the fireworks. I almost cried because I've seen it in videos for such a long time and I cherished the moments. Now, Universal Studios is coming to Singapore, near my beloved country. So, this is what I get from the website:

There are SEVEN different areas: Madagascar, inspired by the hit animated movie. I love Alex, Marty, Gloria, Melman, King Julian and those penguins! But it's mainly about children's rides. Far Far Away Land, from Shrek, fille children's rides. The real deal are the LOST WORLD, ANCIENT EGYPT and SCI-FI CITY. Attractions from Waterworld and Jurasic Park, Dual Coasters inspired by Battlestar Galastica, an indoor track with Mummies. Are they awesome or what?

The other two areas are Hollywood and New York City. I can't wait to see the exhibits about the film industry, since it's my deep-down passion.

Body Worlds in Science Center.

I've known about the exhibitions for a while and it finally came here. It'll be going on until next year. For you people who isn't familiar with it, it's an exhibitions of human bodies, REAL preserved human bodies. And I love the Science Center.
I'm thinking about giving away my body after I die to these kind of stuff. It's unique!

Oh My Miss Fanning

She grew up very fast. I love her work in I Am Sam. And she's only 15 ! I'm 17 and I don't look like that. *duh..* Is it just me or foreign people, especially from Europe or America, look more grown up than in here? I was just wondering ...

What I Love

I love blank pages.
It's where a story begins.
It's where ideas flow like water stream.
I love blank pages.
Waiting to be written with passion.
I love the excitement.
Endless spaces to write on.

__________________________________________________

I love the smell in the air
the smell of fragrances
the smell of good food
but most of all
the smell of new books.
The happiness when holding a book
its soft pages of lines
I love the conversation between characters.

_________________________________________________________________

I love writing stories but I don't dare to publish it. I still feel self conscious about my stories. I can't write a full novel but I also can't write a short story. Blah. I write stories in pieces. For example, I would day-dream about eating in a cafe, I'll write a story about the characters meeting in the cafe. Or at the mall or on the beach. I put the pieces together to an actual whole story. Ta-DA !

2012

I rarely watched disaster movies for one reason only: It.Scares.Me.a.LOT.
but I was curious about this one, 2012. I mean, everyone knows about the Mayan Calendar and doomsday MIGHT happen on December 21 2012. So, on Friday my brother and I watched it at Blitz MOI. We were a bit late and the theater was packed. The story mainly revolves around Jackson and his family trying to escape doomsday. Nations around the world, who secretly knew about the day made huge modern version arks to survive it. The goal was to preserve whatever's possible. Animals, art works, people with specific genes, important people, world leaders, and rich people who pain a billion a seat.

The visual effect is awesome. I had goosebumps throughout the movie, and I had a very strong urge to scream. *weird huh?* You can feel a rush of adrenaline, especially the near-death scenes. Nothing but awesomeness.

The special thing was the US President was black (played by Danny Glover), The German Chancellor was female, the Governor of California sounds so much like Arnold!

About the doomsday itself, I get scared if something like that could really happen but NO ONE can predict what's going to happen. If God said it's time to go, it is the time to go.

Being Different

It's okay to be different, because it makes our world unique.
Being cool it's relative. Be your kind of cool.
Everyone deserves to be appreciated, loved and respected. It's the new world.
If you think torturing the weak is cool, you're sick.
Have you ever think if you're the weak?
No, because your heart is as cold as ice.

Ju and Ju and Shrink

I finally watched Julie and Julia! After NOT finishing the novel due to VERY complicated and high-level vocabulary used, I finally watched the real deal.

Do I like it? On a scale one to ten I give it a ... 7. I absolutely love Meryl Streep (who doesn't?) I don't know how the real Julia Child spoke but if Meryl put on a very convincing accent. So convincing, I sometimes can't even understand what she's talking about. But I like the story of Julia and how she changed the way American women cook. So, the story is about two women, Julia Child, an American living in France in the 50s. She wanted to do something other than being someone's wife. She went on to learn French cooking and wrote a 734-page cookbook. The other story is about Julie Powell, a cubicle worker around the time after 9/11 who made a blog about her year of cooking dangeriously. She cooked every recipe in Julia Child's cookbook in a year.

Julia had a mission to teach America cook French food. Julie finally finish something in her life.

With a drive to suceed and a little inspiration can get people anywhere.

Shrink.
Starring Kevin Spacey and Keke Palmer, to name a few.

I only watch it because, of course, the main character is a psychiatrist and I love Kevin Spacey. At first, I felt a bit disturbed by the language used but if you really watch it, it's very good. It's about Dr. Henry Carter, a psychiatrist to the stars. His patients included a movie-star and her partner, an agent, an aging veteran actor and a strugling writer. Dr. Carter himself had a problem he couldn't cope very well. Turns out, his wife commited suicide. He started to consume drugs. One day, he was given a pro-bono case of Jemma. They had something very much in common, loss.

Kevin Spacey is one of the greatest actors ever. I love the scene where Jemma asked Henry to open a letter, supposedly from her mother, to tell her if the letter explain what happened. When they hug, it's just sad. And Keke Palmer, bright star!

*love it*
*That's my kind of storyline*

Feeling Sentimental

Sea is a body of water
with endless opportunities and wonder
human hands and greed sometimes took
the beauty of God's divine gift

We are here to maintain
We are here to care
for the nature and land
we can live to this day

Pop!

Selayang pandang segarkan raga
bangsa yang kaya harus dijaga

jalan hidup tak harus lurus
harta tak ternilai bagi penerus

air maha luas penuhi situ
budaya tak hilang ditelan waktu

emas indah dipandang mata
tak ada budaya seunik kita

persatuan darah persatuan rasa
identitas kita identitas bangsa

air mengalir deras keluar keran
bagai luapan ungkapan hati
kalau tak mau dicuri negri jiran
jaga harta sampai mati

Research?

PE class assignment: make an aerobic routine of minimum 12 minutes.

so I've been looking at videos at youtube, and doing some research. Of course, I can't copy them all. They.are.impossible.to.follow. it's hard, dude! After searching and several ideas later, I took a break and started looking for cheerleading videos. I love watching 'beautiful sports' like figure skating, cheerleading, swimming, tennis, all that jazz. Here's what I found.

I gasped through out the routine.

Dear John

At Paris Van Java, as I told you before, I bought two books: Princess Mia by Meg Cabot and Dear John by Nicholas Sparks. I just finished reading Dear John and I love it.

What I like about Mr. Sparks' books are the plots are fairly similar: two people with often lonely and different lives, met and found love. But Dear John has a twist I really love. It tells the story of John Tyree, a soldier for the US Army and how he met Savannah Lynn Curtis during his leave of duty. They formed a mutual attraction and they were inseparable. But like everyone said, long distance relationships don't USUALLY last. But for them, it brings an eye-opening experience.

I particularly love it because I think the character of John's Dad is very strong. And it arises a psychology-related issue of Autism and Asperger's, which I love. I strangely enjoy reading about one's detailed personality and how they live. I totally would recommend Dear John as a light reading over the weekend to remind us there are more than one meaning in love.

And the good and surprising news is the novel has been adapted onto the big screen. The movie Dear John will be released next year, starring Channing Tatum *Of Course* and my personal favorite, Amanda Seyfried, and directed by Lasse Halstrom. Woohoo. Believe me, I had no idea about the movie version before I bought the book.

*owwwwwwwww*

many loves,
